Third Time’s a Charm
This April will mark three years owning my third home, and I can’t believe it. Time has really gone by so fast. I’m so grateful to have a place to call my own for my daughter and I. I wake up full of gratitude every day for a roof over my head. I’m so blessed.
Fun fact: I actually almost went to school for interior design. I’ve always had a love for home decor and creating spaces reflective of me. I’ve always been told I have a good eye, so I love pouring that creative energy into my home. Anything home related is always fun for me, especially being the hermit I am. lol I get genuine gratification and happiness out of seeing a space come together. I find the process of designing, decorating and organizing home projects very therapeutic. I just wish I had more time to do more. I have WAY too many ideas I want to unleash. Lol

I’m also a firm believer in how impactful your physical environment is to your energy and health. For me, every space I’ve lived in has always contributed to my mood, and how I show up in life every day. I’ve been enjoying seeing things come together this time around. This is the one home I’ve actually really taken my time with. From finding the right furniture to decor pieces, I haven’t rushed the process of decorating the way I have in the past. I’m loving the slowness of thinking through what I want the vibe to be in each space of my home. It’s been amazing to experience things in a different way this time around.
My dad has always said, “your home should be your oasis.” So that’s what I’ve set out to create — a new chapter, in a new place, for new memories.
Family Room Before
This was the family room, prior to me purchasing the house.
Family Room After
This is my family room now. Updates to paint, decor and flooring always go a LONG way.
To create my family room space, I started with pieces I already had from my previous home. The look and aesthetic is my vibe and similar to what I wanted to carry over to my current home, so I started there. That’s my first tip, and probably the most important — start with what you have. Assuming it’s the vibe you’re going for, and your items are still in decent condition. It’ll also help you save money, at least to start out. In my case, it worked out because I wanted to go with the same flow.
The couch, side tables, rug & credenza I’ve had for years. I purchased the side tables and couch from Mor Furniture, and the rug and credenza from Living Spaces. The only pieces I added to this space to complete the vibe were the concrete coffee table from West Elm and the sitting chair from Target. So happy with how this space turned out. Clean and cozy vibes.
